STOP, organize your list and SEGMENT 🎵

Hey Reader!

This solo podcast is all about segmentation.

Segmenting your email list may sound really "techie”... and, well, it is. 😂 It may not be easy to understand, but I make it my goal to break down complex “techie” things into something that makes sense.

At the start of 2026, I led a workshop on segmentation at Tastemaker (a lovely in-person conference, with even lovelier people!) – and it was everything I hoped for:

  • Teaching about email marketing
  • Walking around and answering questions
  • Watching attendees actually apply what I was teaching AT that very moment
  • And making something about email marketing feel a hair more manageable

Once you understand how it works, segmentation allows you to organize your subscribers based on HOW often they want to hear from you and/or WHAT they want to hear from you.

By segmenting your email list, you're creating a happier environment for your subscribers to thrive in — giving them the content they want and excluding the content that they don't want.

Not only does this make you look like a really compassionate creator, it will also benefit you with higher engagement (open and click rates), because people getting your emails are the people who want to get those emails. A win-win!

Tune into this week’s episode to learn:

  • How to think about segmentation like you think of your own friendships (this makes it way easier to understand!)
  • A few strategies on how you can segment your list
  • A real-life example of how Pinch of Yum has segmented their list specifically for beginner home cooks

Here's what’s on my radar:

A friend recently shared this interview with me, and I've since texted it to half a dozen friends.

A former senator for Nebraska (my home state), Ben Sasse, is losing his battle with SIX types of cancer, yet he's taking the time to share with us the values he wishes we (or, Americans at least) would focus on with our limited time. He also touches on the impact of AI.

Truly worth a watch (or listen).

Hey Reader! Have you been in the mood to do some spring cleaning lately, or is it just me? This year has been full of cleaning for me — helping me stay mentally present and reducing the noise of my devices (and my life). So far I’ve: Replied “STOP” to SMS marketing texts (my reason being “I know where to find you when I need you, niche website where I wanted a coupon code for later.”) Cleared out my shoe collection. Emphasis on collection. I want to reduce decision fatigue, and oh my gosh,...

Hey Reader! I got this email from my mom last week that just said, “Fight the AI.” And I was like, Mom, you have no idea. I've been fighting with it in my brain for weeks now! 😅 You could say I've had my dance battle with AI. At the end of January I was very anti-AI — you know, because it can affect my entire business model and that feels terrible. So in order to know more, I've spent more time over the last month or so using it. And, unfortunately, it's been really incredible. 😅 While,...

Hey Reader! If you’re remotely close to the food blogging community, you’ve heard of this strategy for lead generation — and not only am I sharing it with you as a surefire way to boost subscribers, I’m going to show you HOW. What is it? It’s a “Save this Recipe” form that you add to every blog post. It looks like this: Example from Eating Bird Food You can even use this strategy for non-food blogs, of course, like a “Save this Post” form instead. If you’re interested, it’s worth trying out...
