Hey Reader! I’m a generally reflective person… but I’m also a very practical get-down-to-business kind of person, and often that takes the driver’s seat. But I got back from a trip to Europe this summer right around the day Duett turned 8 years old. My 2018, pre-pandemic baby… going into 3rd grade soon. 😂 That got me thinking about how much has changed for me in all that time. My business has been taking some turns (the good kind) this year, and I’ve simply been adding them to the list of slight shifts I’ve experienced over the last 8 years — but when I did a mental audit of my marketing, I had a “yikes!” moment. I realized that where I am now is not exactly *accounted for* in the welcome sequence I wrote in 2019. So, to my new subscriber, what you just received before getting this email is basically the same as what someone in 2020 received too. Which is cool! But also… sad. Because so much has changed and evolved in my business in that time that YOU, my dear friend, haven’t gotten the best of Duett from the get-go. Eep! I am so sorry. I was busy running my business (as I’m sure you’ve put yours first too) and my lovely welcome sequence — that used to feel so fresh, so bright, so illuminating — now feels, well, stale. So what’s been changing for me, you might ask? A few important things! First, and the biggest, is that I’ve been working on the language for how I show up online, so now I have some new language — specific words, semantics, phrases — that I want to make sure everyone hears when they meet me (albeit, over email). That’s a big change, similar to if you’ve done a whole website rebrand or shifted audiences. It’s not a light lift. Second, we have a new-to-Duett service — though it’s been rolling for over a year now — that no one would know about unless you’re getting my newsletters and I’m promoting it in real time. It’s literally not even on my Services page on my website yet. Eep! You deserve to know your options when considering working with Duett. I’ve been in the trenches getting that service and team working for over a year now, but now it’s time to make sure it’s in my automated welcome sequence! Lastly, I have time to actually look over my whole strategy and make sure it’s still working for me. I get to do this “email strategy” work with clients DAILY, yet when have I last looked back at what I’ve built — in a welcome sequence, nurture sequence, potential segmentation, how I promote products — to see if it still attracts and engages the subscribers I want to work with? Maybe never, honestly. I’ve made slight updates here and there:
But those other things, those big ideas like segmentation or the path subscribers take or how to share my super-refined, client-loved offers so you know you can trust me? NOPE, nada. Haven’t had a minute. What changedNow that I have a team, though, and my clients are happy and my revenue feels stable, I feel like I actually have the bandwidth — and the support, through my team — to take a good, hard look at my setup and refresh it. I don’t see that as WORK, I see that as OPPORTUNITY. It’s honestly fun for me!! I’m curious — what has changed for YOU in the last 5+ years of running your business? Have you changed niches, created a product or cookbook, or something else? There’s no shame in this game, it’s all a learning and growing process, no matter how long we’ve been in business! Let’s Duett, Allea P.S. I’m working on something new (and vulnerable for me) that I’ll share about next week. Reply ROAST to this email and I’ll get you in early. |

Hey Reader! I have a bone to pick. Sure, I have a few, but I have ONE in particular that’s been getting under my skin… Like, who let my email strategy get STALE? Who let my email template annoy me for months (if not a year) just putting that on the backburner to “fix when I have time”? And who has been contemplating segmenting her list for literal YEARS and hasn’t spent more than 10 seconds actually thinking about it? Oh wait, that’s ME. Wait, ME?! You mean — this email expert with a podcast...
Hey Reader! I'm back. Three weeks in Italy, France, and Spain — my first real vacation since 2019. Before I left, I told my team I'd check in twice a week. I checked in six times. There was nothing for me to do. Nothing at all. My Asana was empty. My inbox was handled. And Kat? She had a whole sales conversation and a new client booked without me (literally at all) — which is usually my job, my call, my face on the screen. I came home and just felt... cared for. By my own team. That's the...
Hey Reader! Last summer, Adam Sobel came on Happy Subscribers with one of the most advanced email setups I’d seen from a food blogger. Well… he’s taken it to a whole other level. We recently hopped on an impromptu catch-up call, and once Adam started telling me what he’d built, I knew I needed to hit record. Adam now treats email as the engine of his business, using what he knows about each subscriber to personalize the emails, offers, and even website experiences they see. And what I...
